Dermatologist: There's Nothing Wrong With Your Penis

The skincare industry has spent decades convincing men their genitals need special intervention. They don't.

If you've been living in Western society over the past two or three decades, you'd think penises have a categorical health problem requiring ongoing intervention — washes, scrubs, moisturizers, hair removal protocols. This goes well beyond any old-fashioned view of sex being "dirty." This is a whole new level of problematizing a perfectly healthy body part and selling fixes for problems that don't exist. Here's what actually matters — and what doesn't.

What the Industry Sells — and What's Actually True

Cleansing — Soaps, Washes, Gels

There is no clinical basis for routine cleansing of the penis with soap or any detergent-based product. Do not use any cleansing product on the head or shaft of the penis — and certainly never inside the foreskin. That disrupts the skin balance and throws things off. Lukewarm water only. Gentle rinsing — never strong streams. That's it.

Scrubbing and Exfoliation

Never exfoliate or scrub the penis. Ever. For any reason. The skin on the penis is sensitive mucosa and perimucosal skin — it is not designed to withstand abrasion. Scrubbing disrupts the barrier, causes irritation, and creates the very dryness and sensitivity it claims to address.

Moisturizers — Lotions, Creams, Gels

Dry skin on the penis is most commonly caused by cleansing and scrubbing. The fix is to stop doing those things first. If the skin remains dry, moisturize as needed using a thick oil-based occlusive — Butter Oasis or Butter Blossom. Tiny amounts go a very long way — be careful with quantities. Never use water-based lotions, creams, or gels — the preservatives and emulsifiers in those products can cause irritation in this sensitive area.

Hair Removal

Not recommended. Pubic hair provides cushioning and likely helps reduce the risk of infection — bacterial through cuts, and viral, specifically genital warts. If you want to remove hair for your own reasons — go ahead — but use the least irritating method available: laser hair removal or a sharp razor with generous shaving foam. Always follow with a small amount of Butter Oasis or Butter Blossom immediately after to allow the skin to recover.

Proper Penis Care in a Nutshell

  • Cleanse with lukewarm water only. No soap, no wash, no product of any kind on the head, shaft, or inside the foreskin.
  • Never exfoliate or scrub. Not ever.
  • If dry, moisturize sparingly with Butter Oasis or Butter Blossom — tiny amounts only. First stop whatever was causing the dryness.
  • Hair removal is optional — if you do it, use the least abrasive method and follow immediately with a small amount of occlusive balm.

🩺 The Bottom Line

The penis — like every other area of the body — takes care of itself when you stop interfering with it. Lukewarm water. No cleansers. No scrubbing. A tiny amount of oil-based balm when needed. That is the complete protocol. Everything else is the matrix selling you a problem that doesn't exist.
