Skincare Delusions: Can Skincare Actually Make You Look Younger?
Share
The honest answer — plus the actual bio-hack that makes your skin look as young as it possibly can, at a fraction of the cost
Skincare at its core is the promotion of delusions — false beliefs that are not only impossible to achieve but are designed to keep the user hooked, always buying the next system, always chasing the promised land. The promised land is younger-looking skin. But is younger skin actually achievable through skincare? Let's break this down honestly — and at the end, the actual approach that will make your skin look and feel as young as it possibly can at a fraction of what you're paying now.
What Skincare Products Actually Do to Your Age
You cannot be younger. You are aging as you read this — that's life. But what about looking younger? What does each skincare category actually do toward that goal?
Cleansing — strips the skin barrier away. Less shine, less strength, less plump. Makes skin look older by default.
Scrubbing and Exfoliation — strips away the upper layers of skin. Drier and more sensitive as a result.
Water-Based Moisturizers — lotions, creams, most balms. Effects wear off quickly. Inactive ingredients left loitering on the skin.
Serums — overpriced lotions. Theatre props pretending to deliver benefit while providing nothing except the experience.
Toners — largely drying agents. Another prop in the experiential theatre that damages your skin under a nebulous made-up health benefit.
The Real Answer
There is nothing that makes your skin actually younger. Retinoids may make it behave a bit more like younger skin — but at significant cost in dryness, sensitivity, time, and money. Resurfacing lasers require serious investment. The far simpler path is to stop making your skin look older in the first place. When you eliminate what's aging it, what's left is what your skin actually looks like — which is almost always better than what you were getting before.
The Five Steps to Younger-Looking Skin
Stop Cleansing
Soaps, cleansers, shower gels, body washes, exfoliators, scrubs, loofahs, brushes, washcloths, gloves — all of it. They strip the upper skin layers, removing your natural protectants and moisturizers. Eliminate cleansing and you take a significant step toward skin that does not look older than it should. The objections about dirt, oils, dead skin cells, and bacteria? All manufactured language designed to make you see your skin as a toxic waste dump. It is not. It is your body's most sophisticated protective system.
Use Lukewarm Water Only
Hot water scalds the skin. It is as simple as that. Lukewarm water for washing — every time.
Pat Dry — Never Rub
Rubbing with a towel is another abrasive element that damages the skin. Pat lightly. That's the whole instruction.
Moisturize with a Real Occlusive
Oil-based, thick, few ingredients — three or fewer so you can be certain they work for you. A little goes a long way — watch the amounts. Butter Oasis and Butter Blossom are exceptional examples. Petroleum jelly works well too — just watch the quantity.
Slug — The Bio-Hack
Apply a generous layer — roughly 2mm thick — of Butter Oasis or Butter Blossom to the face overnight. Place a towel on your pillowcase. Wipe off in the morning. Slugging creates a protected environment for an extended period that allows the skin to fully recover its natural barrier — the result is skin that looks glowy, plump, and healthy. Do this a few times a week for two weeks and watch the difference. It is not magic. It is your skin finally getting the conditions it needs to work properly.

🩺 The Bottom Line
Toss the 20-step routine. Toss the nonsense. Save your money. Let your skin do the heavy lifting. Your skin is not looking its worst because you haven't found the right product yet — it's looking its worst because of the products you've already been using. Stop what's aging it. What's left will surprise you.
